I had a debate a few days ago and I hope I didn’t insult anyone with my statement that women make far better CEO’s and COO’s then men. My statement was taken out of context and I wanted to have a chance to clarify.
I am amazed and very pleasantly surprised that increasingly, women are holding the top positions in many companies. Companies of different sizes and in many different industries. The skills of many men impress me; however, I still stand by the belief and the statement that I made that women usually make much better executive managers then men. Imagine what a woman must go through to compete with men. At a very early age society tends to teach women that they are not as athletic as men, not as strong as men, not as competitive as men, not as aggressive as men, not as valuable in the work place as men, not as smart as men, not as dynamic as men, not as equal as men.
Now just think about a stay home mom does and let me ask you, WHAT MAN DO YOU KNOW INCLUDING YOURSELF, can do what a stay home mom can do????? The answer is not likely at many levels. Rear the children, provide, emotional support, manage their schedules, deal with their wellbeing, oversee their mental, emotional and phycological wellbeing. Teach them right from wrong, deal with their growing pains. Wearing many hats! physiatrist, psychologist, doctor, lawyer, enforcer, planner, secretary, nutritionist, and these are just a few of their non-favorite things to do. Yet they manage to do them day in day out and do them better that we men ever can.
In many cases they are not stay home moms, but are CEO’s or COO’s or have other positions and yet they still manage to do their jobs as well as a mom’s job. The society depends on mainly women to create good humans (from the children), walk them through childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, and them productive members of the society.
When you start thinking of what these women do and what a CEO or a COO does, the parallels are amazing. In fact, not even one of us entrepreneurs wouldn’t pay a fortune for a CEO or COO who has these talents as a mom does. We look for those talents all day long for people to work with us.
I released the other day, when I was trying to come up with a job description for my next CEO, that I was describing my wife’s slowest day and that is why I made the statement that women traditionally make far better CEO’s and COO’s than most men that I know. If I offended anyone I apologize, but that is my opinion and I am entitled to it.
